This position is in Rehabilitation Service, Dayton VA Medical Center, Dayton, OH, and serves as bothan Inpatient/Outpatient Physical Therapist, Amputee and Gait Clinic Specialist. Duties include but not limited to: Works as an Inpatient and Outpatient Physical Therapist, specializing in post-operative rehabilitation for acute, sub-acute, and outpatient settings for lower extremity limb-loss. Aids in the decision-making process to determine if the patient is safe to return home or requires additional rehab services. Serves as a mentor and subject matter expert to other staff in the areas of patient evaluation and treatment in the area of amputation care and FES devices. Represents the Physical Therapy Department and PM&RS at various clinical and administrative meetings at the discretion of the Supervisor, Physical Therapy Department. Responsible for independently planning, developing, and implementing effective treatment protocols in the delivery of physical therapy for patients in both an inpatient and outpatient PT setting. Demonstrates the ability to teach, successfully mentor and guide staff, and to effectively serve as a consultant for health care providers regarding the delivery of care in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation specifically regarding our veterans with amputations and those that have a neurological diagnosis requiring the use of various specialty walking devices to promote enhanced mobility. Independently develops, implements, and modifies treatments utilizing specialized interventions and strategies to achieve maximum function and independence for patients with a variety of impairments. Serves as a consultant and resource person for other staff regarding evaluation, treatment planning and provision of PT services for patients with a variety of diagnoses including but not limited to amputations and neuromuscular/musculoskeletal related gait disorders.
