The primary purpose of the position is to serve as an active member of PM&R interdisciplinary team providing a wide range of clinical and administrative support in the treatment efforts of clinical staff in the PM&R section of VACCHCS. The functions are described below as a minimum requirement of this position, there may be other functions, related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned within this position. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/18/2022. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Knowledge of VA policies and regulations pertaining to patient procedures. Broad knowledge of the duties, priorities, commitments, goals, and policies of the PM&R section to perform assignments. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures in the PM&R section. Knowledge of the medical terminology especially as it applies to patients in the PM&R clinics. Knowledge in setting up PM&R equipment, materials, and skill in their proper use. Knowledge of patient safety and infection control policies at this facility. Knowledge and experience in performing emergency basic life support procedures and skill in vital signs monitoring. Knowledge of Appointment Management System in VISTA in processing patients of their appointments and clinical schedules. Knowledge and skill in basic computer use including VISTA/CPRS and word processing and spread sheet (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel). Ability to communicate orally and in writing in providing services to the PM&R section. Knowledge of regulations, procedures and guidelines required in ordering supplies. OR Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-06 level. You must possess six full months of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. ["Major duties include but are not limited to: Transport patients to and from various sections within the facility. Assists and anticipates the needs of the providers in PM&R. Assists providers in positioning, transferring, and mobilizing the patients for a variety of procedures and treatments provided by the clinicians in PM&R outpatient and inpatient care settings. Provides general clerical/administrative support for office, which includes covering the front desk and/or scheduling during absences as needed. Adheres to hospital infection control and safety policies/techniques which includes but not limited to PPE, hand-washing practices, and continuing education. The incumbent must have current BLS certification. Performs vital signs and record information in CPRS. Notify the providers of any abnormality observed in vital signs. Performs continuous safety/security/cleanliness rounding of the PM&R section to ensure safe environment for veteran care and staff. Maintains a safe and clean work environment to include preparing treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols. Comply with all facility and patient safety policy and procedures. Prepares patients to PM&R clinic treatment by welcoming, comforting, providing and/or assisting patient into VACCHCS apparel or apertures, Positioning patient on equipment as appropriate. Helps treat patients by applying heat/cold packs; help patients onto exercise equipment, track walking time and distance, help patient perform prescribed exercises and strengthening techniques. Help deliver supplies and equipment to treatment area, positioning equipment for provider's access. The incumbent must have a current BLS certification. Ensures operation of physical therapy equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; cleaning and adjusting equipment as appropriate following manufacturer's instruction; troubleshoot malfunction's; submitting work request to Biomed/Engineering for equipment malfunctions and preventative maintenance those that require more complex to adjust and maintain; maintaining supply inventory levels; completing and placing supply requisitions; restocking supply storeroom. Conducts the annual inventory of PM&R section equipment through EIL (Equipment Inventory Listing) system. Telephone management includes but is not limited to follow up calls to patients, calls from patient and responding within scope for facilitating other PM&R team members involvement, coordination with outside providers and entities. Performs administrative/clerical functions that include checking-in, scheduling patients, notifying patients of clinic appointments through the Appointment Management System in Vista. The incumbent may also assist in processing RTC to facilitate and improve efficiency in patient care services. These duties are not all-inclusive ad requires demonstration of appropriate training and documented competence prior to their unrestricted performance. Maybe assigned other responsibilities consistent with PM&R Section and VACCHCS policy. Serves and protects the health care facility by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission and VHA requirements.
