This position is in the Specialty Clinics, Specialty Ambulatory Care Service, at the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System, Tucson, AZ. You will be supporting clinic operations within the Medical Sub-Specialty and Surgical Clinics. You will also assist in the Specialty Clinics to provide direct patient care, collecting vitals, lab specimens, casting, patient phone calls, assisting with procedures, and handling reusable medical equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: MUST possess 1 (one) year of specialized experience, equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the Health Technician position. To be creditable, this experience must be equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: working experience assisting in a specialty clinic to provide direct patient care, collecting vitals, lab specimens, casting, patient phone calls, assisting with procedures, and handling reusable medical equipment; providing support to podiatry and orthopedic service with casting as directed; performing EKG's and reporting results to specialty nursing staff; possessing knowledge of medical terminology including abbreviations, meaning and spelling. OR SUBSTITUTE EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: MUST possess a successful completion of at least six (6) months of graduate education or an internship to may be used to meet the specialized experience required. Identify irregularities in patient cardiac rhythm and utilize knowledge of cardiac rhythms to verify the data that is provided by EKG software; perform analysis of ECG data to create report, evaluate scan for provider notification criteria. Escorting patients to the exam room prior to clinic appointment, obtaining and recording accurate vital signs (height, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure), prepare rooms for exams/procedure, explain the purpose of procedures, and insure patient understanding. Possesses knowledge in operating and monitoring computerized EKG equipment to include standard and specialized examinations, as well as monitoring tracings to identify arrhythmias and when gross abnormalities appear, when to repeat procedure, when to stop test procedure, and when to emergently notify physician. Performs other duties as assigned.
