JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an Ortho Tech to provide direct and indirect care to patients at our Duke Ortho Arringdon. The Ortho Tech will be a trained member of the orthopaedic team who works with all associated health care professionals in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities concerning all orthopaedic procedures. Performs a variety of tasks including the fabrication and removal of casts and splints, application of orthopaedic devices, and removal of external orthopaedic hardware in a variety of settings (inpatient, outpatient, emergency department and operating room) Acts as a resource for staff to ensure safe cast/splint application and removal practices are used.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Application and removal of cast, splints, Halo, external fixators and durable medical equipment.
Fabricating splints for various conditions. Wound care, removal of wound closure materials (staples, sutures, orthopaedic hardware), and the application and removal of sterile and non- sterile dressings.
Accurately documenting application of cast, splint or durable medical equipment into the patient's chart as well as accurately entering charge captures when needed.
Instructing patients of cast/wound/splint care.
Evaluate patient's post-operative wounds and notifying provider if there are any wound concerns.
Assisting the physician with any in office procedures.
All other duties/tasks as assigned.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
High school graduate or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Orthopaedic Technology program preferred.
Current certification as Orthopaedic Technologist Certified by NBCOT required. Candidates who do not have certification will be required to obtain within 6 months of hire date. In order to be eligible to complete the certification, you must have a minimum of 24 months of full time orthopaedic technologist experience within the past 36 months OR have completed a qualified Orthopaedic Technologist (OT) training program within the past 12 months.
JOB HOURS
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
