This position serves as an Orthopedic Technician located in the Surgical Service, at the Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS), Stockton, California. DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS 05 grade level in the Federal Service performing technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled such as: Provides instructions and information on procedures to be performed.; Monitors patient's status during procedure.; Functions as scrub/circulating nurse during surgical procedures.; Constructs a variety of splints and casts using all forms of casting to include thermoplastic and hydro-plastic casting materials.; Instructs patients in follow-up procedures and dressing changes.; Receives telephone calls and requests for assistance or information from patients and staff.
